Henry VIII ordered churches and chapels to say how much money they made
each year, and how much their priests were paid. A survey was conducted
called the Valor Ecclesiasticus. In Guernsey the Bailiff and the
Lieutenant Governor provided a list which they said showed the value of
each of the parish churches and chapels. However they chose not to
mention all of churches wealth and mentioned only three chapels, when we
know there were many more. |
