‘Mr Lihou Reports’ 

Guernseyman Admiral Sir James Saumarez was one of Nelson’s captains. In 1805 he was in charge of the Channel Island Squadron and so missed the great triumph at Trafalgar. However, his nephew John Lihou, who was on board the ‘Swiftsure’ is back in the Island to see his uncle and report on the battle. Sir James is also entertaining the delightful Miss Eleanor who is fascinated by Mr Lihou – and his story.

A Gift for Mr. Lukis 

Antiquarian collector and archaeologist Frederick Corbin Lukis opened the first museum in Guernsey. In our story, a gentleman from one of the country parishes has brought an interesting object for Mr Lukis to consider. Our gentleman speaks the local patois, Norman-French, but fortunately a relative of his poor, departed wife is a companion to Mrs Lukis. She is more than delighted to help him…

Victorian Voices 

Meet Martha, who is a companion to Mrs Lukis, wife of Frederick Corbin Lukis who started the first museum in Guernsey. In the 1860s his family entertained many eminent people, including, almost certainly, the exiled French author Victor Hugo. Martha is only too happy to share the gossip - and her worries - with her sister Adelina who is on a visit from England.

Rich or poor, none could be sure to escape this deadly disease. In 1832 it struck at the heart of St. Peter Port. Samuel Boucher relives those three weeks of terror with the help of several ladies of his acquaintance...
