The Museum tells the story of the Island Militia from its creation in the 13th Century up to the point when it was disbanded just before World War II. Visitors will experience a wealth of vibrant colours from the newly conserved uniforms which date back to the middle of the 18th Century. A great deal of time and care has been spent restoring this stunning collection of swords and firearms. Life-size historical figure models feature among the displays which also include videos and a database of all the Museum’s photographs from its Militia Archive. Visitors are able to browse through the archive to see if they can find images of their ancestors who served in the Militia in days gone by. The research and objects throughout the Museum are all brought together by excellent design featuring superb graphics and images. |
