‘PURSUITS & JOYS’ - COLLECTOR’S CORNER
INFORMATION PACK
- To complement the exhibition on the Victorian collector, antiquarian and
archaeologist Frederick Corbin Lukis, Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery is pleased
to invite selected local enthusiasts to share their present day collections with other
museum visitors.
The Lukis Room at the museum in Candie Gardens has been set aside until November
2006, to enable local people to display aspects of their own personal
collections. This can be in photographic form or, if appropriate, a selection of
actual items from your collection.
We have lockable cabinets offering display spaces approx. L
860mm x H 382mm x
D 315mm and wall space for montages of photographs of your collection (mounted
on card or paper) 690mm x 570mm. Display space will be allocated at the
discretion of the Museum, and displays will be changed periodically.
What kind of collection will we accept?
- Anything that has been collected by local people that the Museum feels is
appropriate for display and suitable for all ages to enjoy.
Who can apply to display their collection?
- Anyone from a small child to the senior citizen.
- What will I be asked to do?
- Successful applicants will be notified and asked to bring their displays to the
Museum:
- Photographic Display
- You will need to provide a montage of high resolution photographs, mounted on
paper or card 690mm x 570mm.The Museum staff will frame your montage and display
it on a rota basis on the wall - space permitting. The application form asks you
to provide information relating to your collection which will be displayed
alongside the montage.
- Object Display
- You can bring items pre-arranged within a container to fit the area provided or
alternatively use the display area for your own arrangement – space permitting.
You might like to include your own labels and captions to illustrate
your display (although this is not compulsory!).

- What should I do now?
- Fill out an application form and return it as soon as possible
to the Education Officer, Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery or email Lisa Parnaby
via our contacts page.
Final decisions regarding which collections will be displayed, and periods when
they will be shown, will
be at the discretion of the museum staff involved, who will notify successful
applicants.
