Museums at Night / La Nuit Des Musées

We will again be supporting this pan-European initiative, this time by opening Castle Cornet during the evening for a programme of tours and talks by museum staff, including a look at some of the collection not usually seen by the public.

Soldiers and camp followers take us back to the siege of the Castle Cornet, 1645-51 when the Royalist stronghold held out against the Parliamentarian island of Guernsey for six years.

The dreadful story of the three Guernsey Cauchées sisters, accused of heresy in 1556, as recorded in Foxe's Book of Martyrs. You are invited to join the townspeople of St Peter Port as they follow the unfortunate women being led to their fate.

Rocquaine Regatta

The Rocquaine Regatta has a long and distinguished reputation for fun. A full day (and evening) of free entertainment and activities for both the young and young at heart, including beach and stage events, sandcastles, inshore swimming and sailing, as well as raft races, 5-a-side football and volleyball and even a mini-macho contest.  Held on Guernsey’s beautiful southwest coast, there is also free entry to Fort Grey, Maritime Museum.

Last Call at the Telephone Museum

This is probably the last year when our unique telecommunications collection will be displayed at its present location. We are therefore providing a free opportunity for islanders and visitors alike to pay a final (or even a first) visit the collection in its present home - the former Catel Manual Telephone Exchange.

Open all day, with free entry for all.

Christmas Activities

Last year we featured 1950s post-war themed Christmas displays and activities for all the family, set in a reproduction Guernsey parlour.

This year we will be offering more activities realting to Christmas past and the Discovery Room will again be appropriately furnished with contents, toys and games, as well as dressing-up items, to remind visitors how times have changed.

The museum shop will be stocked with interesting Christmas gifts and Café Victoria will be offering seasonal minced pies and mulled wine.
