THE STORY AND TIMELINE

Welcome to Guernsey Museums & Galleries' celebration of the life of Captain William Le Lacheur, one of the Island’s most famous sons. He became a national hero in Costa Rica and is credited with transforming that country from being the poorest in Central America to the wealthiest, in less than a quarter of a century. William Le Lacheur’s ships went on to feature on Costa Rican bank notes and postage stamps during the 19th and 20th centuries.

This site is only part of the story of William Le Lacheur and we invite users to view the information here and assist us in building on the life and times of what is proving to be a fascinating tale of faith, trade and philanthropy.
